Call to Action

In Canada we are in a very peculiar situation where the dearth of race-based data is and has been an ongoing issue. The only way for substantial and sustainable changes to take place is by collecting this much needed data. Until now we have mainly relied on the United States to supply us with information gathered from their sources (modeling) to determine how race and ethnicity differ among other demographics related to breast cancer and other types of diseases.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) develops evidence-based recommendations about preventive care based on comprehensive systematic reviews of the "best available evidence". Decision models (the use of modeling) provide a complementary, quantitative approach to support the USPSTF recommendations for clinical and policy use. This is similar to what the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (CTFPHC) does to determine the guideline recommendation for Canadians.

However, WE NEED MORE RESEARCH!

My call to action is to both researchers and Canadian BIPOC women (specifically Black women) to be a part of the change that we want to see. Researchers, lets hit the ground running with collection of race-based data and BIPOC women, lets help the researchers by participating in trials, focus groups, polls, etc. We can't have change happen for us without being involved in the process.
